Yes, and Morocco does them beautifully. Private spa hammams and luxury riads offer couples’ rituals in a shared candlelit suite — twin steam, scrub, clay and side-by-side massage, often with rose petals, tea and sometimes a private plunge pool. They’re a honeymoon and anniversary favourite. Book a dedicated private suite in advance.
Couples’ spa experiences are one of the things Morocco genuinely excels at, and they are wildly popular with the honeymooners and anniversary couples I plan for. The setting does half the work: a private hammam suite in a beautiful riad, all candlelight, lanterns, tadelakt-plaster walls and the sound of trickling water, designed for two people to share the whole ritual together rather than being separated into single rooms. It feels intimate and special in a way a standard couples’ massage at home rarely manages.
A typical couples’ ritual runs the full Moroccan sequence side by side — you steam together, get scrubbed (sometimes by two attendants in turn), share the rhassoul clay masking, rinse, and then lie on twin tables for parallel argan or rose-oil massages while the same music plays for both of you. The luxury versions add rose petals scattered on the warm marble, a private plunge pool or relaxation lounge, fruit, pastries and a pot of mint tea to linger over afterwards. It easily fills a slow, indulgent two to three hours.
I want to be honest about the practicalities, because they matter. A genuine couples’ experience needs a private suite, and those book up — especially in the top riads in Marrakech and Fes and around honeymoon season — so reserve ahead rather than hoping to walk in. This is the opposite of the communal public hammam, where men and women are strictly separated and you would never bathe as a couple; couples’ rituals exist precisely in the private spa hammam world, which is why they cost considerably more.
My guidance: pick a venue that specifically offers a private couples’ suite, not just two appointments at the same time in separate rooms, and confirm exactly what the package includes and how long it lasts. Tell them in advance about any skin sensitivities, pregnancy or pressure preferences for each of you, and mention if you are celebrating something — riads here are lovely at quietly adding rose petals, a card or a little extra. Confirm the price, duration and whether tea and lounge time are included before you book.
