Yes — Morocco's cities have caught up with global leisure trends. Marrakech and Casablanca have escape rooms, VR arcades, and gaming lounges, and the malls add bowling, ice rinks, and cinemas. It's a small but growing scene, best in the big cities, and a fun evening change of pace from the traditional sights.
Yes — and it tells you how fast Morocco's cities are modernising. Escape rooms have arrived, mainly in Marrakech and Casablanca, run by young local entrepreneurs and often themed around Moroccan history, mysteries, and legends, which makes them more characterful than the generic versions you'd find elsewhere. They're a great rainy-evening or just-something-different option, and groups of friends or families with older kids love them. Many run sessions in French and English as well as Arabic, so language isn't usually a barrier.
Beyond escape rooms, the broader modern-leisure scene is filling in. You'll find VR arcades and gaming lounges in the bigger cities, the bowling and arcade complexes inside the malls I mentioned, and seasonal ice rinks at places like Morocco Mall. There's a lively café and rooftop-bar culture in Marrakech and Casablanca too, plus trampoline parks and laser-tag style venues popping up aimed at the local family market.
I'll be candid: this is a small and city-bound scene, not a deep one. If modern leisure is your main holiday driver, Morocco isn't where you'd come — the country's pull is its medinas, mountains, and desert. But as a change of pace, especially for families with teenagers or younger travellers who want a fun night out that isn't another tagine dinner, these options genuinely add to a trip.
The way I use these is as variety. A week of intense sightseeing benefits from an evening that's pure fun and low-stakes — an escape room, a couple of games of bowling, a film. It resets everyone and sends you back to the cultural stuff refreshed. We keep track of which venues near your base are good and currently operating (this scene changes fast), and can book ahead so your evening is sorted rather than a gamble.
