Three nights in a romantic Marrakech riad, two in the Atlas at a spa kasbah, two in a luxury Merzouga desert camp for a private dune dinner, then three on the coast in Essaouira. Slow pace, candle-lit dinners, hammams, and one unforgettable night under the stars.
A honeymoon should feel like a love letter, so I pace it for two people who want to linger, not tick boxes. We open with three nights in a small, romantic Marrakech riad — the kind with a rooftop plunge pool and four rooms, not forty. I build in a couples' hammam and massage on the first afternoon to wash off the flights, a private dinner on the terrace under lanterns, and one unhurried day of medina-and-gardens with a guide who knows where the quiet courtyards are.
From Marrakech we drive into the High Atlas for two nights at a spa kasbah near Asni or the Ourika valley — log fires, valley views, and nothing to do but read, walk, and soak. This is the breathing space of the trip. I love sending couples on a short guided walk to a Berber home for tea, then back to the pool by lunch. The contrast between the buzz of the city and this mountain silence is exactly what newlyweds need.
Days six and seven are the romantic centrepiece: the long, beautiful drive east through the Dades and Todra gorges to Merzouga and the great dunes of Erg Chebbi. I book a genuinely luxurious tented camp and arrange a private candle-lit dinner on a dune with a personal butler, a sunrise camel ride, and a sandboard for the playful. Sleeping in the Sahara, just the two of you under a sky thick with stars, is the moment most couples tell me they'll never forget.
We finish on the Atlantic in Essaouira for three nights — a flight or scenic drive away — where the pace drops to zero. Whitewashed ramparts, fresh grilled fish at the port, an oceanfront boutique hotel, sunset walks on the wide beach, and maybe a horseback ride along the sand. Ending by the sea means you leave relaxed rather than wired, with the desert behind you and the ocean as your last memory.
