From Alexandria (HBE) you typically route via Cairo on EgyptAir or Royal Air Maroc to Casablanca (CMN), around 5–6 hours of total air time. Check your visa status before booking. Then plan a 7–10 day loop through Marrakech, the Sahara and Fes.

Alexandria travellers are some of my favourite to plan for, because Egyptians and Moroccans share so much culture, language and cuisine that the trip feels like meeting a cousin you have never visited. From HBE the usual path is a short hop or drive to Cairo, then EgyptAir or Royal Air Maroc onward to Casablanca, with total air time around five to six hours. I always have my Alexandria guests verify the live schedule with the airline, since the Cairo connection determines everything.

On the visa, requirements depend on your passport. Many travellers from the region have a manageable path, but I never let anyone assume — confirm your specific entry rules for Morocco before booking. If your passport needs a visa, apply early and verify the documents on the official Moroccan portal. The Alexandria guests who sort this first never have the flight money at risk.

For the journey, I lean into the cultural rhyme my Egyptian guests adore. A 7-day loop covers Marrakech and its souks, a night in the High Atlas, two nights in the Sahara near Merzouga, and Fes — whose ancient medina and university will feel like a sister to old Cairo. Ten days adds Chefchaouen and the Atlantic at Essaouira. A private driver keeps the long desert legs comfortable and scenic.

My Alexandria-specific tip: compare your Moroccan medinas to home as you go — the conversation between Fes and Islamic Cairo is half the joy. Practically, the flight is short and there is barely any time difference, so you arrive fresh and can start exploring on day one. Still, keep the first morning relaxed with mint tea and a slow wander. Build the trip on our 7-day or 10-day itineraries below.
