From Astana (NQZ) there are no direct flights — connect via Istanbul on Turkish Airlines, or via a Gulf hub like Dubai or Doha, to Casablanca (CMN), roughly 11–14 hours including the stop. Most travellers need a Morocco visa, so apply early. Then plan a 7–10 day loop.
Astana travellers face a long but very doable journey to Morocco, and I always set expectations honestly: there is no direct flight. From NQZ (Nur-Sultan) the cleanest routings are Turkish Airlines via Istanbul or a Gulf carrier via Dubai or Doha, onward to Casablanca, with total air time around eleven to fourteen hours including the connection. Air Astana and Turkish both serve the city well; verify the live schedule with the airline, since Central Asian long-haul timetables change with the season.
The visa is the piece I press hardest for Kazakh travellers. Most passports from the region require a visa for Morocco, and the application has to be in hand before you fly. Apply early and verify your eligibility and document checklist on the official Moroccan portal. My Astana guests who start this as soon as flights are held — never after — always have the calmest weeks before departure.
For the trip, Astana travellers tend to want a rich contrast to the steppe, and Morocco delivers exactly that. A 7-day loop runs Marrakech and its souks, a night crossing the High Atlas, two nights under the Sahara stars near Merzouga, and Fes. Ten days adds blue Chefchaouen and the Atlantic at Essaouira. Given the long flight in, a private vehicle and driver turns the inter-city legs into restful, scenic stretches rather than a slog.
My Astana-specific tip: because you are investing a long travel day, do not over-pack the itinerary — depth beats breadth on a journey this far from home. Morocco is several hours behind Kazakhstan, so an overnight via Istanbul lands you in the afternoon, ready for an early night. Keep day one light and build the rest on our 7-day or 10-day itineraries below.
