There are no direct flights from Tampa (TPA) to Morocco. Connect via a European hub like London, Madrid or Frankfurt, or route through New York–JFK onto Royal Air Maroc to Casablanca. Expect roughly 15–19 hours total door-to-door with one layover.
Tampa travellers are often surprised that Florida's gateways don't reach Morocco directly, but the routings are still straightforward. From TPA I typically send people through a European hub — London with British Airways or Virgin, Madrid with Iberia, Frankfurt with Lufthansa, or Lisbon with TAP — then a short southbound leg into Casablanca or Marrakech. The alternative is connecting through New York–JFK for Royal Air Maroc's nonstop to Casablanca. Lisbon is my quiet favourite from the Southeast because the Atlantic crossing is shorter and you can tack on a day in Portugal. Budget 15–19 hours total and verify schedules, as winter and summer frequencies differ.
Coming from the Gulf Coast, you already know how to do heat and beach time, so I gently reframe Morocco as something richer: a country of medinas and mountains and sand, not a resort. My Tampa clients tend to fall hardest for the sensory side — the cumin-and-saffron haze of a spice souk, the cold splash of a tiled riad courtyard at midday, the silence of the dunes after sunset. I tell them to slow down for it, and to spend the first afternoon simply acclimatising on a rooftop with a pot of mint tea.
On the trip itself, a week built around Marrakech is the classic first visit: the city, a day over the High Atlas, and an overnight Sahara camp near Merzouga. Stretch to ten days and I'll add Fes and Chefchaouen so you get the imperial cities and that famous blue-washed mountain town. Because Tampa folks often travel as couples or families, I tailor the pace accordingly — easier driving days, a pool-equipped riad to break up the trip, and experiences chosen around whether you're chasing food, photography, or history.
Logistics are easy: Tampa is on Eastern Time, so Morocco is four to five hours ahead and jet lag is mild. US passport holders enjoy 90 days visa-free, ATMs on arrival give the best dirham rate, and spring and autumn deliver the most reliable weather. With Morocco co-hosting the 2030 World Cup alongside the USA, I'm already helping Tampa Bay sports fans plan reconnaissance trips — and locking in the smartest flight routing now makes the tournament-year journey far simpler.
