Yes — Morocco is one of the best honeymoon destinations in the world for couples who want romance with substance. Candlelit riad courtyards, private Sahara camps under the stars, Atlas hideaways and sea-facing Essaouira give you five very different moods in one short trip.
I have designed honeymoons across three continents, and Morocco still surprises couples who expected "just a beach alternative." What makes it work is contrast within a single week. You can wake in a rose-scented riad in Marrakech, lunch in the High Atlas with snowmelt rivers below you, and that same week fall asleep in a private desert camp with the Milky Way overhead. Very few destinations hand you that much variety four hours from each other.
The romance here is sensory rather than staged. It is mint tea poured from height onto a rooftop at dusk, the call to prayer drifting across the medina, a hammam where you are scrubbed and oiled until you both feel newly made. I tell honeymooners not to over-schedule — Morocco rewards the couple who books a candlelit dinner in the riad courtyard and simply stays in for the night.
Practically, it suits honeymoons because the logistics are easy to hand off. Private drivers, riad hosts who quietly upgrade the suite, and designers (us) who arrange the rose petals and the dune-top breakfast mean you never touch a timetable. Honesty matters here too: Morocco is conservative in public, so save the overt romance for private spaces — riad rooftops, your camp, your suite — and it is faultless.
My one caveat: if your dream honeymoon is two weeks of doing nothing on a lounger, Morocco is not that. Its beaches are charming (Essaouira, Oualidah) but breezy and Atlantic, not Maldivian. The couples who adore Morocco are the ones who want to feel something — wonder, indulgence, a little adventure — woven through their first trip as a married couple.
