Very. Moroccans adore children and welcome them warmly everywhere. Camel rides, desert camps, beaches, and bustling souks delight kids, and riads are spacious and safe. Bring snacks, pace the heat and walking, and your family will be embraced rather than tolerated.
Morocco is one of the most genuinely child-loving cultures I have travelled with families in. Children are not just accepted in restaurants and shops — they are fussed over. Waiters carry toddlers around, shopkeepers hand out little gifts, and grandmothers stop to coo. Travelling with kids here often opens doors rather than closing them.
The experiences are tailor-made for young imaginations. A camel ride into the dunes, a night under the stars at a desert camp, monkeys and waterfalls in the Atlas, the snake charmers and storytellers of Jemaa el-Fna, fresh orange juice on demand — my family travellers consistently report these as the best moments. The sensory overload that overwhelms some adults is pure magic to a seven-year-old.
Riads are quietly brilliant for families: central courtyards where kids can play safely, multiple rooms around one space, and hosts who treat you like relatives. I usually steer families toward a riad with a plunge pool for the inevitable afternoon meltdown-prevention swim, and toward private transfers so nobody is wrangling luggage and children on public transport.
A few honest caveats keep it smooth. The summer heat is real, so build in pool time and avoid midday sun; medina crowds mean holding small hands tightly; and picky eaters do fine on bread, tagine, couscous, and chips, but I always pack familiar snacks for the in-between hours. Pace the days gently and Morocco rewards families enormously.
