A few, but not many. Morocco has occasional mosquitoes near water, gardens, and the coast, mostly in warm months — they are a minor nuisance, not a health threat. There is no malaria risk. Pack a small repellent for evenings and you will barely notice them.

Mosquitoes in Morocco are an occasional annoyance, not a defining feature of the trip. Across many visits I have had a handful of evening encounters and plenty of nights with none at all. They cluster where you would expect — near oases, lush riad gardens, palm groves, irrigation channels, and the humid coast — and pick up a little in the warmer months from late spring through autumn.

Here is the reassuring part: there is no malaria in Morocco. The mosquitoes you might meet are the ordinary itchy kind, not a disease risk. That removes the need for antimalarial tablets entirely and turns the whole question from a health worry into a simple comfort one.

The dry Sahara is, ironically, one of the lowest-mosquito places you can be — too arid for them to thrive — so desert-camp nights are usually blissfully bite-free. Where I do reach for repellent is a garden riad in Marrakech on a warm evening, or a coastal stay around Essaouira or the lagoons, particularly at dusk.

My packing is minimal: a small bottle of repellent for the evenings and maybe a plug-in or a coil if I am staying somewhere especially green. Many riads provide screens, nets, or plug-in devices already. Long sleeves at sunset do most of the work, and that is genuinely all the defence Morocco asks of you.
