From Guayaquil (GYE) you connect via a US hub or Madrid (Iberia flies direct to Spain), then take a 1.5–2 hour flight to Casablanca or Marrakech. Budget 20–26 hours with two stops. Ecuadorian passports need a Morocco visa — apply ahead. A 10-day first trip is the sweet spot.
Guayaquil has one quietly useful asset for this trip that I always flag to Ecuadorian clients: there are direct services from GYE to Madrid, which collapses the hardest part of the journey into a single leg. So my favourite routing from Guayaquil is the transatlantic hop straight to Madrid, then the short, frequent connection down to Casablanca (CMN) or directly into Marrakech (RAK). If the Madrid direct doesn't suit your dates, the fallback is a US gateway like Miami and across to Madrid or Lisbon — slightly longer, but always available.
Plan for 20 to 26 hours door to door, and the variable is really how clean your European connection is. I give Guayaquil travellers a 3-hour cushion in Madrid as standard, because that's where a delay on the long leg can cost you the Morocco onward flight. The reassuring part is that Spain–Morocco is one of the busiest short-haul corridors anywhere — Royal Air Maroc, Iberia, Air Arabia Maroc and the budget carriers all run it constantly — so even a missed connection is a rebooking, not a ruined trip. For many clients I still suggest an outbound night in Madrid to break the haul.
The visa comes before everything else. Ecuadorian passport holders need a visa to enter Morocco, and the process takes lead time, so I treat it as task number one — sorted before flights are paid for. Because Morocco has been modernising its entry system and rules can change, confirm the current requirement for an Ecuadorian passport directly through official Moroccan consular channels and leave yourself several weeks. Verify the live flight schedules in the same pass, since the Guayaquil–Madrid direct and the onward Morocco options both vary by season.
After a crossing this long, I won't design anything shorter than 10 days for a Guayaquil first-timer — you've earned the time to let Morocco breathe. The shape I'd recommend: land Casablanca, train up to Fes for two nights of medieval medina, cross the Middle Atlas to the Sahara for an overnight at Merzouga, then over the High Atlas into Marrakech for souks, gardens and a mountain day, departing from Marrakech. If you genuinely only have a week, keep it to Marrakech and Fes with a single desert excursion. Use our 10-day itinerary as your frame and we'll fit the long-haul connections around your GYE departure.
