Morocco Train Guide 2026

Morocco's ONCF railway network connects the country's major cities efficiently and affordably. From the Al Boraq high-speed train to scenic cross-country routes, this guide covers routes, tickets, classes, station guides, and everything you need to travel Morocco by rail.

Why Travel Morocco by Train

ONCF (Office National des Chemins de Fer) operates Morocco's railway system, connecting over 30 stations across the country's most visited cities. Train travel is comfortable, affordable, scenic, and avoids the stress of navigating Moroccan roads.

The crown jewel of the network is the Al Boraq, Africa's first high-speed train, which covers Tangier to Casablanca in just 2 hours at speeds up to 320 km/h. Combined with regular services reaching Marrakech, Fes, Meknes, Rabat, and Oujda, trains are the smartest way to see Morocco's imperial cities.

Al Boraq: Africa's First High-Speed Train

Inaugurated in November 2018, the Al Boraq (named after the mythical creature in Islamic tradition) connects Tangier to Casablanca at speeds up to 320 km/h. Built by Alstom using TGV Duplex technology, it reduced the journey from 4 hours 45 minutes to just 2 hours 10 minutes.

Economy Class

  • Seating: 2+2 configuration, reserved seats
  • Legroom: Standard, comfortable for most travelers
  • WiFi: Available (free)
  • Power outlets: At every seat
  • Price: 149-199 MAD ($15-20) Tangier-Casablanca
  • Best for: Budget travelers, short journeys

First Class

  • Seating: 2+1 configuration, wider seats, reserved
  • Legroom: Generous, reclining seats
  • WiFi: Available (free, priority bandwidth)
  • Power outlets: At every seat + USB
  • Price: 229-350 MAD ($23-35) Tangier-Casablanca
  • Best for: Business travelers, comfort seekers

Al Boraq Tips

  • Book early: Al Boraq can sell out on weekends and holidays. Book online at oncf-voyages.ma up to 30 days in advance.
  • Tangier station: The high-speed station is Tanger Ville (not Tanger Med port). It is centrally located.
  • Casablanca station: Trains terminate at Casa Voyageurs. Transfer here for Marrakech, Fes, and other destinations.
  • Cafe car: An onboard cafe sells coffee, snacks, and sandwiches. Prices are fair.
  • Luggage: Overhead racks and end-of-car storage. No luggage limits or extra fees.

First Class vs Second Class

FeatureFirst ClassSecond Class
Seating2+1 (wide, reserved)2+2 (standard, unreserved on regular trains)
Air conditioningAlwaysNewer trains only
CrowdingRarely crowdedCan be very crowded at peak times
Price premium40-50% more than 2nd classBase fare
Power outletsYes (newer trains)Limited/none
Recommended forJourneys over 2 hours, familiesShort trips, budget travelers

Our recommendation: For journeys under 1 hour (e.g., Casablanca-Rabat), second class is perfectly fine. For longer routes (Casablanca-Marrakech, Casablanca-Fes), first class is worth the $5-10 upgrade for the comfort and guaranteed seat.

Major Station Guides

Casa Voyageurs (Casablanca)

Main hub for all routes

Morocco's busiest and most important station. All long-distance routes pass through here. Recently renovated with modern facilities including a food court, ATMs, luggage storage, and a taxi rank outside.

Getting to the medina: Tram (line T1) to Place des Nations or taxi (30-50 MAD).Tip: Do not confuse with Casa Port station (used only for some local services).

Marrakech Station

Southern terminus

Located in the Gueliz new city, about 15 minutes by taxi from the medina. Modern station with cafes, ticket counters, and a taxi rank. The station is the southern end of the ONCF network — trains do not continue south beyond Marrakech.

Getting to the medina: Taxi to Jemaa el-Fna (20-30 MAD, 10 minutes). Bus #11 also runs to the medina.

Fes Station

Gateway to Fes el-Bali

Located in the Ville Nouvelle (new city), about 20 minutes by taxi from the medina. The station has ticket counters, waiting areas, and limited food options. Petit taxis (red) wait outside but cannot enter the medina — they drop you at the nearest gate.

Getting to the medina: Petit taxi to Bab Bou Jeloud (30-40 MAD). Arrange riad pickup for the best experience.

Rabat Ville Station

Capital city hub

Centrally located and walkable to many attractions including the Hassan Tower and Kasbah of the Udayas. Well-connected by tram to other parts of the city. Modern station with full amenities.

Getting around: Tram (line L1 or L2) covers most tourist areas. The medina and Kasbah are walkable (15-20 minutes).

Tanger Ville Station

Al Boraq northern terminus

The main station for Tangier, serving both regular and Al Boraq services. Located in the city center near the port area. Modern facilities with Al Boraq waiting lounge.

Getting to the medina: Walkable (10 minutes) or petit taxi (15-20 MAD).Note: This is different from Tanger Med port station.

Train Travel Tips

1

Arrive 15-20 minutes early

Trains generally depart on time. Allow extra time at busy stations like Casa Voyageurs.

2

Carry your passport

Occasionally checked on trains along with your ticket. Always have valid ID.

3

Bring snacks and water

While cafe cars exist on some trains, smaller services have no food. Station vendors sell sandwiches and drinks.

4

Download offline maps

Phone signal can be patchy on some routes. Download Google Maps offline for navigation at destination.

5

Guard your luggage

Keep bags visible and within reach. Use overhead racks in your line of sight. Lock zippers if possible.

6

Confirm your platform

Platforms are announced on screens and by PA system (usually in French and Arabic). Ask staff if unsure.

7

Respect quiet cars

First class is generally quieter. Keep phone calls brief and volume low.

8

Plan connections carefully

Allow at least 30 minutes for connections at Casa Voyageurs. Check schedules in advance.
