From Kolkata (CCU) there are no direct flights — connect via Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi to Casablanca (roughly 14–15 hours including the stop), or via Istanbul on Turkish Airlines. Indian passport holders need a Morocco e-visa, so apply early. Plan a 7–10 day loop of Marrakech, the Sahara and Fes.
Kolkata sits a little further east, so I am always upfront that this is a longer haul, and of course there is no direct India–Morocco flight. From CCU you connect through a Gulf hub — Emirates via Dubai, Qatar Airways via Doha or Etihad via Abu Dhabi — onward to Casablanca, with Turkish Airlines via Istanbul as a good alternative. Including the layover you are looking at roughly 14 to 15 hours of travel. Because eastern-India departures often run overnight, confirm the precise timing with the airline before you commit.
The visa always comes next in my Kolkata briefings. Indian passport holders require a visa for Morocco; the Moroccan e-visa is the most convenient option, but it must be obtained before you fly and the eligibility terms change from time to time. Apply early and verify the current rules on the official Moroccan e-visa portal. I encourage my Bengali guests to start the application as soon as flights are held, never after.
On the ground, I love sending Kolkata travellers — who tend to be wonderful, curious eaters — on a route that leans into culture and cuisine. A 7-day plan covers Marrakech, an Atlas overnight, two nights in the Sahara near Merzouga, and Fes for its food and craft traditions. Ten days lets me add Chefchaouen and a coastal pause in Essaouira. A private car and driver smooths the long inter-city drives, which matters when you have already flown so far.
My Kolkata tip concerns recovery. Morocco runs about four and a half hours behind India, and after a long eastern-origin journey you will feel it. I always block a relaxed first morning — a courtyard breakfast in a riad before any sightseeing. Build the trip on our 7-day or 10-day itineraries below and resist the urge to add a fifth city; depth beats breadth on a journey this far from home.
