From Bucharest, Wizz Air flies direct to Marrakech in around 5 hours, with easy connections via Istanbul, Madrid or Rome when it doesn't. Romanian (EU) passport holders enter visa-free for up to 90 days. Allow 7–10 days, and always verify the current rule before booking.
Romania has quietly become well connected to Morocco, and Romanian travellers are often surprised by how easy the trip is to arrange. Wizz Air has flown Bucharest directly to Marrakech, which gets you there in around five hours with no connection — a brilliant base for a week. When the direct route isn't operating on your travel dates, Turkish Airlines via Istanbul is my go-to (Istanbul to Casablanca is a short, frequent hop), and you can also connect smoothly through Madrid, Rome or a Gulf hub. I always price the direct Wizz fare first because it's hard to beat, but the connecting options keep you flexible.
Given how short the flight is, I plan Romanian trips with the same generosity I'd give any European guest. Seven days delivers a genuine first encounter: Marrakech, a Sahara night under the stars, and the Atlas Mountains in between. Ten days lets me fold in Fes — for me the most atmospheric medina in the country — and perhaps the blue-washed alleys of Chefchaouen. If your direct flight lands in Marrakech, we'll loop the itinerary so you finish there relaxed and close to your departure gate, rather than racing across the map on your last day.
On the visa, you're well placed: as an EU citizen, a Romanian passport holder enters Morocco visa-free for tourist stays of up to 90 days, with just the standard requirement of a passport valid six months beyond your trip. No application, no fee. I'll repeat the caveat I give everyone because it genuinely matters — entry rules can change, so confirm the current position with the Moroccan embassy in Bucharest or official channels before you book and again close to departure. A quick check now saves any surprise at the airport.
A couple of Romania-specific pointers. The time difference is small — Morocco is usually a couple of hours behind Romanian time depending on the season — so you'll feel no real jet lag and can start enjoying the trip immediately. And value is a real draw: the leu goes a long way in Morocco, so a private driver, a beautiful riad and guided experiences that might feel extravagant elsewhere are very attainable. Many of my Romanian guests are delighted at how much trip their budget buys here. Tell me your dates and which airport you're flying from, and I'll build the smartest route and the right pace.
