Salt Lake City (SLC) has no direct flight to Morocco. As a Delta hub, the natural routing is via Amsterdam or Paris (with KLM or Air France) then south to Casablanca, or via New York–JFK onto Royal Air Maroc. Plan on roughly 16–20 hours total door-to-door.
Salt Lake City is a Delta fortress hub, and that genuinely simplifies things. From SLC the most natural path is Delta's transatlantic service to Amsterdam or Paris with KLM and Air France, then a short two-to-three-hour leg into Casablanca or Marrakech. The alternative is connecting via New York–JFK and picking up Royal Air Maroc's nonstop to Casablanca. I price both for SLC clients, but the Amsterdam routing is often the cleanest single-connection option from Utah. Total travel time runs about 16–20 hours; always verify live schedules before booking, as seasonal frequency varies.
Utah travellers come from a landscape of red rock, canyon, and big desert silence, so Morocco feels like a long-lost cousin. My SLC clients connect instantly with the Sahara — the scale of Erg Chebbi, the way the dunes turn copper at dusk, the absolute quiet at night. I build their trips to maximise that, often with an extra night in the desert and a sunrise from the top of a dune. I also slot in the cultural counterweight of the medinas so the journey has range, and an easy first day to shake off the flight.
For structure, I anchor a first trip in Marrakech: the city, a day climbing into the High Atlas to a Berber village, and a night in a Sahara camp near Merzouga. Seven days handles it well. With ten I'll add Fes — the great medieval medina — and Chefchaouen's blue lanes for a fuller imperial-cities loop. Because Utah families often travel together, I'm happy to design for groups: reasonable drives, riads with pools, and a camp the kids will never forget. Everything is matched to your interests rather than a fixed route.
Logistics: Salt Lake City is on Mountain Time, so Morocco is seven to eight hours ahead and the adjustment is moderate — an easy arrival day sorts it. US citizens travel visa-free for up to 90 days, ATMs on arrival give the best dirham rate, and spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons across cities and desert. With the 2030 World Cup co-hosted by the USA and Morocco, I'm already seeing Salt Lake fans plan scouting trips — and getting the Delta routing settled now makes the tournament-year journey straightforward.
