From Vientiane (VTE) there are no direct flights — connect via a Gulf hub like Doha or Dubai, or via Istanbul, to Casablanca (CMN), roughly 19–22 hours including the stop and usually two connections. Most travellers need a Morocco visa, so apply early. Then plan a 7–10 day loop.

Vientiane is one of the longest hauls to Morocco I plan, and I set expectations clearly: there is no direct flight, and you will almost always make two connections. From VTE the practical path is to position through Bangkok, then take a Gulf carrier via Doha or Dubai, or Turkish Airlines via Istanbul, onward to Casablanca. Counting the regional hop plus the long-haul legs you are looking at roughly nineteen to twenty-two hours of air time plus layovers. Verify every leg with the airline, as Laos has very limited long-haul service.

The visa is the step I emphasise most for Lao travellers. Most passports from the region require a visa for Morocco, and given the complexity of the routing you want it confirmed long before you fly. Apply early and verify your eligibility and the document checklist on the official Moroccan portal. My Vientiane guests who handle the visa first, before booking the multi-leg flights, always avoid the last-minute scramble.

For the journey, Vientiane travellers who cherish the slow rhythm of riverside temples and gentle markets find a wonderful counterpoint in Morocco’s lively medinas. A 7-day loop covers Marrakech and its souks, a night in the High Atlas, two nights in the Sahara near Merzouga, and Fes. Ten days adds Chefchaouen and the coast at Essaouira. After such a long journey, a private driver makes the inter-city legs restful rather than tiring.

My Vientiane-specific tip: because the routing is long and multi-leg, position through Bangkok and build a generous buffer at both ends — never plan a tight onward connection. Morocco is many hours behind Laos, so expect significant jet lag and keep day one in Marrakech very gentle. Anchor the trip on our 7-day or 10-day itineraries below, give yourself at least a week, and savour every stop.
