Yes — Marrakech is ideal for a romantic long weekend, just three to four hours from much of Europe. Three or four nights in a riad with a hammam, the Majorelle Garden, rooftop dinners and a day-trip to the Atlas or Agafay desert makes a complete, indulgent escape without the long-haul.

For couples in Europe, Marrakech is one of the best romantic short breaks anywhere — barely a three to four hour flight, yet it lands you somewhere that feels a world away. I plan a lot of these long weekends, and the formula is simple: base in a gorgeous riad, do not over-schedule, and let the city seduce you. Three nights is enough to feel transported; four is luxurious.

A perfect romantic weekend looks like this. Arrive and do nothing but a hammam and a rooftop dinner. The next day, the Majorelle and Secret Gardens, the souks at a gentle pace, mint tea, and a long candlelit dinner in the riad courtyard. On the third day, escape the city — the Agafay "stone desert" is only an hour out for a sunset camel ride and dinner under the stars, or head into the Atlas foothills for waterfalls and mountain air. Then home, recharged.

If a couple has a precious extra day, I sometimes send them to Essaouira on the coast for a complete change of pace — sea breeze, seafood, ramparts — or keep them in Marrakech for a cooking class and a spa morning. The point of a short break is depth over distance: pick one base, go slow, and feel like you have been away far longer than the weekend you actually spent.

My honest advice for a short trip: do not attempt the full Sahara — the real Erg Chebbi dunes are a long drive each way and need a couple of nights to do without rushing. Save the deep desert for a longer honeymoon, and on a weekend lean into Marrakech's riads, gardens, food and the nearby Agafay for your dose of desert romance.
