You can, but it's a long, tiring day — roughly 4 hours each way (8 hours' driving) over the Tizi n'Tichka pass. It's doable as a marathon day trip, but I honestly recommend an overnight in Ouarzazate or pairing it with a desert tour instead, so the famous kasbah gets the time it deserves.

Yes, it's technically possible — and plenty of operators sell it — but let me be straight with you: a day trip to Aït Benhaddou from Marrakech is a serious endurance test. The drive is about 4 hours each way over the high Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260m), so you're looking at roughly 8 hours in the car for maybe 90 minutes at the site itself. You leave at dawn and get back after dark.

And it's a magnificent site — a UNESCO-listed earthen ksar of stacked kasbahs rising from the riverbank, the backdrop for Gladiator, Game of Thrones and countless films. It deserves more than a rushed hour. The road over the Atlas is spectacular but winding, and if you're prone to car sickness the switchbacks will not be your friend.

What I almost always recommend instead: make it an overnight. Stay in nearby Ouarzazate or in a kasbah hotel right opposite the ksar, and you get golden-hour light on the walls, a quiet morning before the day-trip buses arrive, and the famous film studios and Telouet kasbah on the way. Even better, Aït Benhaddou sits naturally on the route to the Sahara, so it slots perfectly into a 2- or 3-day desert tour rather than a brutal there-and-back.

My honest verdict: don't do it as a same-day round trip unless you genuinely have no other option and accept it'll be a long, car-heavy day. With even one extra night you transform it from an exhausting drive into one of the highlights of Morocco. If a day trip is all your schedule allows, you'd actually have a more relaxed and rewarding day at Ourika or Ouzoud, which are far closer.
