For most couples, a 7–10 day route works best: 3 nights Marrakech (riad + spa), an overnight in a private Sahara camp via the Atlas and Aït Ben Haddou, then Fes or a coastal wind-down in Essaouira. It balances wonder, indulgence and rest without rushing.

The honeymoon route I design most often is a loop of moods. I open in Marrakech for three nights so you arrive, exhale, and settle into riad life — a hammam on day one to wash off the wedding, then the Majorelle Garden, a rooftop dinner, and slow mornings. Marrakech is intense, and three nights lets you taste it without it tiring you.

Then we drive south. The road over the Tizi n'Tichka pass through the High Atlas is one of the great romantic drives — kasbahs, walnut groves, snow on the peaks in spring — and we stop at Aït Ben Haddou, the golden mud-brick ksar, before reaching the dunes. The Sahara night is the heart of every honeymoon I plan: a private camp at Erg Chebbi, camels at sunset, a candlelit dinner just for the two of you, and a sky so full of stars couples genuinely go quiet.

From there it depends on the couple. Romantics who love history continue to Fes for the medina, the tanneries and a grand riad. Couples who want to decompress loop back toward the coast — Essaouira, with its ramparts, fresh seafood and Atlantic light, is the gentlest possible ending to a honeymoon. Ten nights lets you do both; seven nights asks you to choose one.

My honest advice: do not try to add Chefchaouen, Tangier and the desert in one honeymoon week — the driving swallows the romance. Pick a clean line, build in two "nothing" mornings, and let us handle the surprises (a private dinner, a sunrise dune walk, a couples spa) so the itinerary feels effortless rather than packed.
