From Chennai (MAA) there are no direct flights to Morocco — fly via Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi to Casablanca (about 13–15 hours including the stop), or via Istanbul. Indian passport holders need a Morocco e-visa, so apply early. Land in Casablanca, then run a 7–10 day loop through Marrakech, Fes and the Sahara.

I have routed plenty of Chennai travellers to Morocco, and the first thing I always say is: there is no nonstop. From MAA you connect through a Gulf hub — Emirates via Dubai, Qatar Airways via Doha, or Etihad via Abu Dhabi — and land at Casablanca (CMN). Turkish Airlines via Istanbul is the strong alternative. Total air time runs roughly 13 to 15 hours with the layover, so I tell people to take an overnight leg out of Chennai and arrive in Morocco fresh in the afternoon. Always verify the live schedule with the airline, because Gulf-hub timings shift seasonally.

Before anyone books a flight, I make sure they understand the visa. Indian passport holders need a visa for Morocco, and the e-visa is the simplest path — but it has to be applied for in advance and the eligibility rules change, so apply early and verify everything on the official Moroccan e-visa portal. I have seen too many last-minute scrambles. Sort the visa first, flights second; that order has never failed my Chennai guests.

For the trip itself, I usually land people in Casablanca and move them straight to Marrakech, because Chennai travellers want warmth, colour and the souks immediately. A classic 7-day loop is Marrakech, a night in the Atlas, two nights in the Sahara near Merzouga, then Fes. With 10 days I add Chefchaouen and the coast at Essaouira. The internal driving is long but scenic, and a private driver beats trains for families coming this far.

My practical Chennai-specific tip: because you are already burning a day in transit, do not over-pack the itinerary. Build in a slow first morning in Marrakech to beat the jet lag — Morocco is roughly four and a half hours behind India, so you wake early naturally. Pair that with our 7-day or 10-day routes below and you get a trip that feels unhurried even though you flew halfway across the world to reach it.
