Yes — September is one of the best months. The summer heat breaks, cities ease into warm, pleasant days (28–32°C), the desert becomes enjoyable again by late month, and crowds thin after the holidays. A superb shoulder-season choice across every region.
September is when Morocco exhales after summer, and it is one of our favourite months to travel. Early September can still be warm inland — Marrakech and Fes around 30–34°C — but the fierce edge softens week by week, and by late September the cities are comfortable again at 28–32°C with warm, golden light and long, pleasant evenings. The European holiday crowds have largely gone home, so popular sites breathe again.
The desert reopens for prime experiences as the month progresses. Early September is still hot in Merzouga and Zagora, but by mid-to-late month daytime temperatures ease to enjoyable levels and nights turn warm and balmy — ideal for desert overnights. This is the start of the excellent autumn window for the Sahara: warm afternoons, comfortable evenings under the stars, and the dramatic light returning before the winter chill.
It is harvest season, which gives September a lovely working-countryside feel. Date palms are heavy with fruit in the southern oases, the Atlas valleys are gathering apples and walnuts, and rural markets are vivid and abundant. The High Atlas remains excellent for trekking, with warm, stable days and clear skies — arguably the most reliable hiking conditions of the whole year.
The coast stays warm and inviting too. The Atlantic at Essaouira and Agadir is still pleasant, the wind eases a little from its summer peak, and the sea is at its warmest of the year after months of summer sun. September genuinely offers something everywhere — warm cities, a comfortable desert, fine trekking and good beach days, all at once.
In short: September is a top-tier shoulder month. Early in the month plan around lingering heat in the desert and cities; by late September conditions are close to ideal across the board, with thinning crowds and easing prices. Highly recommended.
