April is prime spring in Tangier — highs around 19°C (66°F), nights near 12°C (54°F), mostly dry and bright with wildflowers everywhere and only the occasional shower. It is comfortable for walking all day and pleasantly quiet. Pack layers and a light jacket for breezy evenings.
April might be the single most pleasant month to wander Tangier on foot. The winter wet has eased, the hills are carpeted with wildflowers, and the famous light is at its softest and clearest. Daytime sits around a perfect 19°C—warm in the sun, cool in the shade—so I can plan full, ambitious days without anyone wilting from heat or shivering from cold. The wind still comes through, as it always does here, but it is a fresh breeze now rather than a winter blast.
This is the month I lean into outdoor Tangier. We do the Kasbah and its ramparts in the morning, lunch on a terrace overlooking the port, then the long, scenic run out to Cap Spartel where the Atlantic and Mediterranean meet and the Caves of Hercules open onto the ocean. The medina is a joy to explore at this temperature, and the gardens—the Mendoubia, the Perdicaris park up the coast—are green and blooming. Everything photographs beautifully.
April food is spring food: artichokes, peas, fresh herbs, strawberries arriving in the markets, and the seafood that Tangier does so well. Evenings are mild but cool enough to want a wrap on an outdoor table, and the cafés stay lively. Crowds are still light—this is before the European school holidays and the summer rush—so you get the city’s charm without the high-season prices or pressure.
My honest caveat is the sea. It is warming but still around 17°C in April, so it is paddling-and-photographing weather, not swimming weather, and you may catch a rainy day or two. If a guest’s heart is set on beach time and warm water, I steer them to June through September. But for sightseeing, walking, gardens, light and value, April is one of the very best windows of the whole year in Tangier.
