March is early spring in Tangier — highs around 18°C (64°F), nights near 11°C (52°F), greener hills, longer days and brighter light, though showers and wind still pass through. The city wakes up but stays uncrowded. Pack layers and a light rain jacket.
March is when Tangier exhales. The hills go emerald after the winter rains, the days lengthen noticeably, and the light—always this city’s great gift—turns clear and generous. Highs reach about 18°C, which is mild enough for long days outdoors but cool enough that you still want a sweater after sunset and a jacket when the wind comes off the Strait. It is one of my favourite months to design a Tangier stay.
The rhythm of the city shifts in March. The cafés on the Boulevard Pasteur fill up, the corniche comes back to life, and the medina has more energy without yet feeling busy. I love walking guests up to the Kasbah in the morning light, then down through the souks to the Grand Socco where the flower sellers are out. Day trips to Cap Spartel and the Caves of Hercules are at their best now—the air is soft, the sea spectacular, and the crowds are months away.
Spring brings wonderful eating. The markets are full of fava beans, peas, artichokes and the last of the citrus, and the seafood remains excellent. Evenings are still cool enough to enjoy somewhere warm and atmospheric, but I can also book outdoor terraces for lunch with confidence on the bright days. Hotel rates are still in the gentle pre-season band, so this is real value.
The honest note: March is a transition month and the weather can still turn. You will likely get a couple of wet, blustery days, and the sea—around 16°C—is too cold for anything but a brave paddle. This is a walking-and-looking month, not a beach month. If a client wants to swim, I point them at June onward. But for green landscapes, lovely light, mild walking weather and low crowds, March is a quietly excellent time in Tangier.
