May is warm, bright and mostly dry — highs around 21°C (70°F), nights near 14°C (57°F), with long sunny days and the first real beach afternoons. Rain is rare, the breeze is pleasant, and crowds are still moderate. Pack light layers, sunscreen and something for cool evenings.

May is when Tangier turns the corner into summer without any of summer’s intensity. Highs climb to a lovely 21°C, the rain all but disappears, and the days are long and golden. The sea is warming—still on the cool side at around 18°C, but the first sun-seekers are back on the sand and the corniche cafés are buzzing again. For a traveller who wants warmth and brightness but not heat or crowds, this is a sweet spot I recommend often.

I get to design generous, sunny itineraries in May. Mornings on the Kasbah ramparts with the Strait sparkling, the run out to Cap Spartel where you can comfortably sit on the cliffs, lunches on open terraces, and golden-hour walks along the bay. The medina is warm but never oppressive, the gardens are in full bloom, and the light—that endless Tangier light—is at its most flattering. It is a photographer’s and a stroller’s month.

The food and the evenings are a highlight. Outdoor dining becomes the default; I book terrace tables knowing the weather will hold, and the seafood, salads and the season’s fruit are superb. Evenings are mild enough to linger, though a light layer is still welcome once the sea breeze picks up. Crowds and prices are climbing toward the summer peak but have not arrived, so May still feels relaxed and good value.

The honest note: if you specifically want warm-water swimming, May is on the early side—the Atlantic is bracing and the keenest swimmers wade in, but most guests prefer to dip rather than linger. For full beach-and-swim conditions I point people at June through September. But for a warm, dry, sunny, walkable Tangier with the beach just starting to come alive and crowds still gentle, May is hard to beat.
