October is mild, pleasant autumn — highs around 23°C (73°F), nights near 15°C (59°F), still mostly dry early on with the sea pleasantly warm for late swims. Crowds drop sharply and the light is beautiful, though the first rains can arrive late month. Pack layers and a light rain jacket.
October is the gentle, golden tail of Tangier’s warm season, and I adore it. Highs ease to around 23°C, the summer crowds have all but gone, and the sea—still holding the summer’s warmth—stays comfortable enough for a swim well into the month. The light goes soft and amber, the medina is relaxed, and the whole city has that contented end-of-season feel. It is one of the most underrated months to come, and one I recommend to travellers who want warmth without the bustle.
The pace I design for October is unhurried. Long mornings exploring the Kasbah and the souks without the summer press, lunches on terraces that are pleasant but no longer packed, and the scenic run to Cap Spartel and the Caves of Hercules with the autumn light flattering every photo. Early in the month you can still pair sightseeing with a beach afternoon; later, as the first weather systems roll in off the Atlantic, I keep a couple of indoor options ready for each day.
Autumn brings its own pleasures to the table. The markets fill with pomegranates, fresh dates, quince and the new olive harvest, and the seafood stays superb. Evenings cool down—a proper layer is welcome after dark—and the riads start lighting their lamps and fires earlier. With high season over, accommodation is easier and noticeably better value, which makes October a smart choice for a relaxed, characterful stay.
The honest note: October is a transition month. The first weeks are often summery and dry, but the back half can turn cooler and bring the season’s opening rains and stronger winds, and the sea cools as the month goes on. If reliably hot beach weather is the priority, June through September is the safer bet. But for soft light, warm-enough days, low crowds, good food and good value, October is a lovely time in Tangier.
