Yes — desert yoga and wellness retreats are increasingly popular in the Moroccan Sahara. Luxury camps near Merzouga and Erg Chigaga, and in the Agafay desert near Marrakech, offer sunrise yoga on the dunes, meditation, sound baths and spa treatments. The silence and dark skies make it one of the most restorative settings imaginable.

There is honestly no better yoga studio than a Sahara dune at sunrise. The silence out at Erg Chebbi near Merzouga is total — no traffic, no phones, just the cool sand and the lightening sky — and rolling out a mat on a dune for a slow flow as the sun comes up is profoundly grounding. A growing number of the premium desert camps now offer sunrise and sunset yoga, guided meditation and breathwork as part of the stay, and even where it's not formally scheduled, a good camp will happily set you up with a quiet spot and a mat.

For a fuller wellness experience, dedicated retreats run in the desert and on the desert's edge — combining daily yoga and meditation with the traditional Moroccan rituals that are wellness in their own right: a hammam steam and black-soap scrub, an argan-oil massage, herbal teas, and the simple medicine of digital silence under the stars. The dark skies and the slow rhythm of camp life do half the work; people arrive frazzled and leave genuinely reset.

If you can't get all the way south, the Agafay desert just 40 minutes from Marrakech has become a hub for exactly this — luxury tented camps with yoga decks looking over the rocky 'stone desert' toward the Atlas, sound baths under the stars, and spa treatments, all within easy reach of the city. It's the convenient version of the desert-wellness idea and works beautifully for a short trip or as a calm bookend to a busy Marrakech stay.

My advice: build wellness into a desert night you were going to have anyway rather than treating it as a separate trip. Ask your camp in advance whether they can arrange a sunrise yoga session or a massage, go on or near a new moon so the stargazing meditation is at its best, and bring layers — the magic of dawn yoga on a dune is real, but the desert is cold before the sun is up. It's the most restorative thing I send clients to do in Morocco.
