Is Morocco good for a milestone birthday trip?

A milestone birthday wants a destination that feels like an occasion in itself, and Morocco fits the bill whether you're marking a thirtieth with friends or a sixtieth with family. I plan these as celebrations from the ground up: the trip is the gift, and every day is designed to feel a notch more special than ordinary travel. The combination of dramatic landscapes, sumptuous riads and a hospitality culture that loves to fuss over a guest means a birthday here lands somewhere between a holiday and a party.

The centrepiece I reach for most is a private desert dinner under the stars. Picture the birthday person arriving at a luxury camp on the dunes at sunset, a table set in the sand, drummers around a fire, and a cake produced as the stars come out — it is theatrical in the best way and almost impossible to forget. For groups staying near Marrakech, the Agafay desert gives the same starlit drama an hour from the city, and a riad rooftop dinner with the medina glowing below makes a beautiful alternative when the desert isn't on the cards.
