In short

Essaouira suits couples who want the ocean, a relaxed town and gentle temperatures, and who are happy to plan around the wind.

The medina is small and walkable, the fish comes straight off the boats, and the trade wind keeps summer cool. Sheltered courtyards and estates inland make the wind easy to work with; we plan for it from the start.

Shelter from the wind Everything we take care of

The wind, honestly

Shelter from the wind

The trade wind blows mostly from the north and north-east, and is usually strongest from spring into summer: it is why Essaouira is a kitesurfing town. Choose the setting by how sheltered you want to be.

  1. 01 · Sheltered

    A riad courtyard

Walls on four sides: the calmest place in town, wind or not.

  2. 02 · Mostly calm

    An estate inland

Among argan and thuya trees a few kilometres from the sea: warmer, calmer evenings.

  3. 03 · Breezy

    A rooftop or rampart terrace

The view of the ocean and the islands, with a breeze to plan for: screens, wraps, weighted decor.

  4. 04 · Exposed

    The beach

Wide, wild and beautiful, and the windiest choice: best for a short ceremony, or on a calm evening.

The trade wind blows mostly from the north and north-east, usually strongest from spring into summer. A sketch of shelter, not a forecast: every day is different.

When

The season

Essaouira is mild all year: rarely very hot, with cool evenings, so even summer works when Marrakech is too hot.

The wind is usually strongest from spring into summer; winters are calmer but cooler and can be wet. The Gnaoua festival fills the town: usually late June (2026: June 25-27, 27th edition).

Moroccan touches

  • The henna nightA night or two before the wedding, the bride’s hands and feet are painted with henna, among women, with music and sweets. Many couples borrow it as a guest evening.
  • The negafaThe woman who dresses the bride and guides her through the night, including the changes of outfit: a Moroccan wedding often sees several caftans.
  • The amariyaA decorated litter in which the bride, and often the couple, is lifted shoulder-high by bearers and carried around the room.
  • Dates and milkOffered to guests, and to the couple, as a sign of welcome and sweetness.

A wedding in Essaouira: your questions

Is Essaouira too windy for a wedding?

Not if you plan for it. The trade wind is usually strongest from spring into summer; riad courtyards and inland estates are sheltered, and terraces and beaches need screens, wraps and weighted decor. We choose the setting and timing with the wind in mind.

How do guests get to Essaouira?

Essaouira has a small airport with limited flights; most guests fly into Marrakech and take a private transfer of about three hours, which we arrange.

When is the best time for an Essaouira wedding?

It is mild all year. April to June and September to October balance warmth and light; check the Gnaoua festival dates, when the town fills up.

Do you plan the whole wedding?

Yes: lodging for you and your guests, the ceremony with its setting, decor, flowers, music and officiant, the welcome dinner and henna night, a photographer on request, transfers and guest days out, and the honeymoon after.

How much does a destination wedding in Morocco cost?

It depends on the number of guests, the kind of venue, how many days you celebrate, the decor and flowers, the catering and the guests’ stays and days out. Tell us your plans and we send a free, itemised quote within 24 hours.

Can we marry legally in Morocco?

Most couples sign the legal paperwork at home and celebrate here; we plan the celebration end to end.
