Yes, but with caveats. A 2-day trip to Zagora works reasonably because it is ~7 hours from Marrakech, though the dunes are small. A 2-day Merzouga trip means roughly 18 hours of driving for only a few hours in the big dunes — possible, but very rushed. For Erg Chebbi, 3 days is far better.
Technically yes, but the answer really depends on which desert you mean. For Zagora, a 2-day / 1-night trip is genuinely workable: it's about 7 hours from Marrakech, so you drive down, do a short camel ride, sleep in a camp, and return the next day. The dunes there are modest and the landscape rockier than the classic Sahara, but as a quick desert taste in limited time, it does the job.
For Merzouga and the big Erg Chebbi dunes, 2 days is technically possible but we'd be doing you a disservice to recommend it. Merzouga is around 9 hours each way, so a 2-day trip is roughly 18 hours of driving compressed into two days, leaving only a brief window — often just sunset and sunrise — actually at the dunes. You'd spend the vast majority of your time staring at the road, not the Sahara.
If your schedule absolutely cannot fit 3 days and you specifically want the big dunes, be realistic about the trade-off: it's exhausting and you'll see the desert in a hurry. Many people who do this say the dunes were wonderful but they wish they'd had one more day to enjoy them rather than racing back.
Our honest guidance: if you only have 2 days, go to Zagora and accept smaller dunes, or save the Sahara for a trip where you can give Merzouga the 3 days it deserves. The desert rewards a little patience, and a slightly longer trip transforms it from a marathon drive into a genuine highlight.
