The Almond Blossom Festival is a February celebration in Tafraoute, a granite-ringed town in the Anti-Atlas, marking the moment the valley’s almond trees burst into pink-and-white bloom. Expect Amazigh music, dancing, local crafts and the chance to walk through orchards in full flower beneath dramatic red rock.
The Almond Blossom Festival is the one I recommend to travellers who want Morocco at its most serene and scenic in winter. It is held in Tafraoute, a beautiful town cradled by pink granite mountains in the Anti-Atlas, south of Agadir. The region is famous for its almond groves, and in late winter the trees explode into delicate pink and white blossom across the valley floor.
The festival takes place in February, timed to the bloom — dates shift slightly with the season’s weather. It celebrates the almond harvest and Amazigh culture with folk music, ahwash dancing, poetry, and stalls selling almonds, argan oil and local crafts. It is intimate and community-rooted rather than a mass event.
Expect crisp, sunny days perfect for walking, and some of the most striking landscapes in the country: smooth granite domes, palm-filled gorges, the famous Painted Rocks, and ancient hillside villages. February is otherwise a quiet travel month, so you get this little corner of Morocco at its blooming best with very few crowds.
Worth planning around? If you love landscapes, walking and slow travel, yes — it is a gem. Tafraoute is a few hours’ drive from Agadir, so I build it into Anti-Atlas itineraries for guests who want something off the well-trodden imperial-cities path. Pack a warm layer for the evenings; the high desert chills quickly after sunset.
