Roads to the desert and over the Atlas are long and winding, public transport eats time, and a knowledgeable driver turns transit into part of the experience — stopping at viewpoints, kasbahs, and villages you would otherwise miss. For desert excursions specifically, going with an experienced operator is about safety as much as comfort.
