Yes, as a relaxed, less-touristy taste of the Atlas. Asni is a Berber market town about an hour from Marrakech on the road to Imlil, sitting at around 1,150m. Its Saturday souk and the quiet foothill valleys make a gentle, authentic day — though for higher mountains, continue on to Imlil.
Asni is a lovely, lower-key alternative to the busier valley day trips. It's roughly an hour south of Marrakech at about 1,150m, the gateway town on the road up to Imlil and Toubkal, set among apple and cherry orchards in the Atlas foothills. It doesn't have a single famous 'sight', and that's exactly its charm — it's about countryside, Berber rural life and a slower pace.
If you can time it for Saturday, Asni's weekly souk is the real draw — a genuine working market where villagers from across the surrounding hills come to trade livestock, produce and goods. It's authentic and unpolished, a window into mountain life that the more visitor-oriented spots don't quite offer. The rest of the week, Asni is a gentle base for walks among the orchards and small villages with the high peaks rising beyond.
Practically, Asni works well as either a standalone easy day or, more often, a stop on the way to somewhere higher. Many people pause here for the views and the market before continuing the extra half hour up to Imlil for the bigger mountain scenery and village walks. On its own it's restful rather than dramatic; combined with Imlil it rounds out a full Atlas day nicely.
My verdict: worth it if you value authenticity and calm over headline sights — especially on a Saturday for the souk. If you want the more striking high-mountain landscapes and a proper walk, treat Asni as the warm-up and push on to Imlil. Either way, bring a layer; even the foothills are noticeably cooler than the city.
