Yes, Morocco has excellent Atlantic surf. Taghazout near Agadir is the hub, with mellow beginner beaches and world-class right-hand point breaks like Anchor Point. Essaouira suits beginners and windsurfers, and Imsouane has a famously long, gentle wave. Best season is roughly September to April for swell.

Morocco is one of the most underrated surf destinations in the world, and the Atlantic coast delivers consistent, varied waves with a warm, laid-back culture around it. The undisputed capital is Taghazout, a former fishing village turned surf town about 20 minutes north of Agadir. Within a short drive you have the full spectrum: gentle, forgiving beach breaks at Crocodile and Panorama where surf schools put total beginners on their feet, and serious, peeling right-hand point breaks like Anchor Point and Killer Point that draw experienced surfers from all over.

If you have never surfed, this is a brilliant place to learn. The water is cooler than the air so you wear a wetsuit, the beach breaks are sandy-bottomed and patient, and Taghazout is full of camps that bundle lessons, board hire, accommodation and meals into one easy package. I love sending first-timers here because the vibe is encouraging rather than intimidating, and the long, slow waves at nearby Imsouane, one of the longest rides in Africa, are perfect for building confidence and actually riding a wave all the way in.

For other spots: Essaouira is great if you want to mix a little surf with culture and shopping, though its strong afternoon wind makes it better for kitesurfing and windsurfing than clean surfing, mornings are calmer. Further afield, the breaks around Mirleft and Sidi Ifni are quieter and more rugged for those chasing solitude. But for most travellers, Taghazout plus Imsouane covers everything from first lesson to advanced point break.

On timing, the prime surf season runs roughly from September through April, when North Atlantic swells light up the points, with the biggest, most powerful waves in winter. Summer is smaller and better for absolute beginners and families. The water sits around 17 to 20 degrees, so pack or rent a wetsuit year-round. A surf-and-explore trip pairs beautifully, a few days on the board in Taghazout, then inland to Marrakech and the mountains.
