From Salzburg (SZG) you connect via Munich or Vienna to Marrakech (RAK) or Casablanca (CMN), roughly 5–7 hours total. EU passports need no visa. Then plan a 7–10 day loop covering Marrakech, the Sahara and Fes, ideally with a private driver.
Salzburg travellers come from a city of mountains, music and Baroque splendour, and I love the contrast Morocco offers them — from alpine air to desert dunes in a single short journey. From SZG you connect through a nearby hub, most often Munich (an easy reach for Salzburg) or Vienna, onward to Marrakech or Casablanca, with total air time around five to seven hours including the stop. Salzburg’s airport is compact and seasonal, so I always have my guests verify the live schedule with the airline, and Munich is frequently the smoother gateway.
On the visa, EU and EEA passport holders enter Morocco visa-free for tourism up to ninety days, keeping Salzburg planning easy. Still, I never let anyone assume — entry rules follow your passport, not your departure city. Confirm your specific requirements before booking, and if your passport needs a visa, apply early and verify everything on the official Moroccan portal. Handling this first keeps the flight money safe and the trip carefree.
For the journey, I find Salzburg travellers, attuned to dramatic mountain scenery, are thrilled by the High Atlas and the Sahara. A 7-day loop runs Marrakech and its souks, a night crossing the High Atlas — where snow-capped peaks rise much as the Alps do at home — two nights under the desert stars near Merzouga, and Fes. Ten days adds blue Chefchaouen and the Atlantic at Essaouira. A private driver turns the long, scenic mountain and desert roads into a highlight rather than a chore.
My Salzburg-specific tip: if the Alps are in your blood, make the High Atlas crossing a centrepiece, not just a transit leg — the Tizi n’Tichka pass and the Berber villages along it are unforgettable. Munich is usually your easiest gateway, so weave the short drive or train into your plan. With only an hour of time difference there is no jet lag; keep day one gentle and lean on our 7-day or 10-day itineraries below.
