If you’re passing nearby, yes — it’s a striking natural rock bridge and gorge near Demnate, east of Marrakech, with a cool cave, a river and resident birds. It’s a genuinely impressive geological feature and a pleasant short walk, but it’s well off the main tourist routes, so it’s worth it mainly as a detour, not a long dedicated trip.

Imi n’Ifri is one of Morocco’s lesser-known natural wonders, and it surprises people who make the effort to reach it. It lies near the town of Demnate, east of Marrakech (a good two hours or more away, beyond the usual day-trip belt), where a river has carved out a huge natural rock bridge spanning a green gorge. The name means roughly "mouth of the cave," and that is exactly what it feels like — you descend into a cool, shaded chasm where the rock arches overhead and water runs through, a dramatic contrast to the dusty plains around Demnate.

The experience is a short, scenic walk rather than a major expedition. Steps and a path lead you down into the gorge and under the great arch, past pools and tumbling water, with caves and overhangs where flocks of chough (black mountain birds) wheel and call. Local legend layers the place with stories of spirits and a star-crossed couple, which guides enjoy recounting, and the whole spot has an atmospheric, slightly otherworldly feel. It is cool, green and refreshing, and the geology alone is genuinely impressive up close.

Now the honest part. Imi n’Ifri is remote relative to the main Marrakech sights, so reaching it eats up a lot of driving for what is ultimately a fairly compact attraction — you can see the bridge and walk the gorge in an hour or two. It is not set up for mass tourism; facilities are basic, and you’ll likely share it with local visitors rather than tour buses. For most travellers on a tight Morocco itinerary, the distance is hard to justify for this one stop alone.

My verdict: Imi n’Ifri is worth it if you’re already heading toward Demnate or the Middle Atlas, or if you specifically love natural rock formations and quiet, off-the-beaten-track spots — it rewards the curious. As a long dedicated round trip from Marrakech, it’s harder to recommend over closer highlights. If you go, wear decent shoes for the steps and damp rock, allow time for the drive, and pair it with the nearby Demnate area or onward travel toward Ouarzazate to make the distance count.
