September is when Morocco becomes ideal again. Inland heat eases (cities back to comfortable high-20s/low-30s), the Sahara returns to excellent — hot by day, pleasant nights — the Atlas is still fine, and the coast stays warm. Crowds and prices ease from the summer coastal peak.

September is one of the two golden windows of the Moroccan year (the other being spring), and it's a month I push hard for desert and combination trips. The crushing summer heat breaks: the imperial cities slide back from the high-30s into a much more humane high-20s and low-30s, and the whole country becomes walkable and pleasant again. Early September still carries real heat, but by the second half of the month Marrakech, Fes and Rabat are genuinely comfortable, with warm days and softening, beautiful evenings.

The Sahara is the big September story. As the worst of the summer heat retreats, the desert swings back into its excellent shoulder-season form — hot but bearable days, comfortable nights, and that clean, low-humidity light that makes the dunes so photogenic. This is once again a month I happily send people deep into the desert for an overnight under the stars. The High Atlas is still in good trekking shape too, with stable, clear weather before the autumn turns, so you can pair mountains and desert without compromise.

The coast holds onto summer warmth through September, but with the August crowds thinning out — Essaouira, Agadir and the Atlantic and Mediterranean beaches are still warm and swimmable, just calmer and more relaxed. The countryside is golden and dry rather than spring-green, the date harvest is underway in the southern oases, and there's a lovely end-of-summer fullness to the markets. Across the board, the country is in a sweet, balanced state.

On crowds and cost, September is a smart pick. The coastal resorts come off their August peak, European families head home as schools restart, and prices for flights and riads ease back toward shoulder-season levels — all while the weather is close to perfect. It does pick up again toward October as the autumn high season builds, so the earlier half of the month is often the better value. Pack for warm days and pleasantly cool evenings, with one light layer for the desert nights, and you'll catch Morocco at one of its very best moments.
