The High Atlas peaks hold snow from roughly December to March, with the deepest cover in January–February. The first dustings can arrive in November and patches linger on Toubkal into April–May. Below about 2,000m snow is occasional; above 3,000m it is reliable all winter.
Snow in the High Atlas is mostly a December-to-March affair, and it falls in a clear pattern by altitude. The high summits and passes above about 3,000m get reliable, lasting cover all winter, January and February are the deepest and most dependable months, and that is the time you see the whole range white from Marrakech. From the city it is one of Morocco's great surprises — palm trees in the foreground, snow peaks on the horizon.
The shoulders of the season are less predictable but well worth knowing. The first proper snowfall usually arrives in November, sometimes a heavy early dump that catches autumn trekkers out, and snow can keep patching the very top of Toubkal and the north-facing gullies right into April and even May. So if you specifically want to see or play in snow, aim for the January–February core; if you want a snow-free summit, you want June to October.
Altitude is everything here. Around Imlil at roughly 1,800m you might get a pretty dusting that melts in a day or two, lovely but not deep. Up at Oukaïmeden, over 2,600m, the snow lies thick enough through January to March to run a ski resort. And on the high traverses and summit slopes it is a permanent winter feature — which is exactly why those routes need mountaineering gear in season rather than just walking boots.
One honest reality of a warming climate: Atlas snowfall has become more variable year to year. Some winters deliver metres and a long ski season; others are leaner with late, thin cover. I never promise guests guaranteed deep snow on a fixed date — instead we watch the actual conditions in the weeks before you travel and shape the plan around what the mountain is actually doing.
