Yes, for hikers. Akchour, in Talassemtane National Park about 45 minutes from Chefchaouen, has beautiful river pools, a striking natural rock arch ('God's Bridge') and waterfalls reached on a real hike (2–3 hours each way to the big falls). Lush and rewarding, but it's a proper walk, not a casual stroll.
Akchour is the standout nature escape from Chefchaouen, and for anyone who likes to walk it's genuinely worth it. It sits about 45 minutes' drive from the blue city, in the green, water-rich Talassemtane National Park in the Rif. The reward is a gorge of clear emerald river pools, the dramatic natural rock arch known as 'God's Bridge' (Pont de Dieu), and a tall, cascading waterfall deeper in.
Here's what to know before you go: this is a hike, not a viewpoint you drive up to. The trail to the big waterfall follows the river for roughly two to three hours each way over rocky, sometimes uneven ground, with stream crossings. It's beautiful the whole way — shaded by trees, with pools to cool off in — but you need decent shoes, water, and a reasonable level of fitness. The shorter walk to God's Bridge is much easier (around 40 minutes to an hour each way) and a good option if you don't want the full day's effort.
Because the Rif is the wettest part of Morocco, Akchour is at its lushest and fullest in spring, when the river runs strong and the greenery is vivid. In high summer it's a popular cooling-off spot for locals, so it can get busy, and in winter the trail can be muddy and the water cold. Little café shacks along the river sell tea and tagine, so you can refuel mid-hike.
My verdict: a resounding yes if you enjoy hiking and want to see a side of Morocco — green, mountainous, river-filled — that surprises most visitors. If you're not up for a multi-hour trek, do the shorter God's Bridge walk and enjoy the river pools. It pairs perfectly with a couple of days in Chefchaouen, balancing the town's blue lanes with proper nature.
