February stays cool and changeable — highs around 17°C (63°F), nights near 9°C (48°F), with rain and brisk wind but the first hints of spring. Almond blossom appears, the light sharpens, and crowds are minimal. Bring layers, a waterproof and patience for the weather.

February in Tangier is winter with the door left slightly ajar to spring. The temperatures barely move from January—around 17°C by day—but something shifts in the feel of the place. The almond trees on the hills behind the city start to blossom, the afternoons stretch a little longer, and on the calm days the Strait turns that improbable blue that makes you understand why painters never left. On the rough days it is grey, gusty and dramatic, and I plan accordingly.

I treat February as a hedge: I build itineraries with indoor and outdoor options for each day, then read the sky each morning. A bright window means the Kasbah ramparts, the views across to Spain on the clearest days, and a stroll along the corniche. A wet one means the Legation Museum, the antique dealers in the medina, and a long, slow lunch. The city is still firmly in low season, so museums and cafés are calm and you never queue.

This is a wonderful month for food and for talking to people. Citrus is at its peak, the markets are piled with oranges and the season’s artichokes, and the seafood is superb and cheap. Evenings are cool enough that I genuinely enjoy a warm tagine or a bowl of harira, and the riads light their fires. Rates are still low, so February is a smart month for travellers who want a touch of luxury without the summer premium.

My honest advice: do not come to February Tangier for the beach. The sea is cold and the wind keeps the sand empty. Come for the atmosphere, the blossom, the photography and the quiet. If swimming and reliable sun are non-negotiable, the beach season here really begins in June, and I would either wait or pair Tangier with a different focus. For a moody, characterful, two-day city stay, February delivers.
