If you want to see how modern, urban Moroccans actually go out, Casablanca is the place. A few others fill specific niches. Agadir, the purpose-built beach resort on the southern coast, has the most conventional package-holiday nightlife — beach bars, resort clubs and a relaxed seaside party atmosphere aimed at international tourists. Coastal towns like Essaouira have a lovely, low-key evening scene built around live Gnaoua and world music, beachfront cafés and relaxed bars rather than clubbing — wonderful in its own way, especially during the music festivals. And in the imperial heart of Fes and the desert and mountain regions, nights are quiet and traditional: this is where "nightlife" means a rooftop dinner, a music evening, stargazing or a hammam, not a dance floor.

Match the city to the night you want and you'll never be disappointed.
