A hammam in Fes is the traditional steam-bath ritual — black soap, the kessa scrub glove, rhassoul clay and argan oil — experienced in the heart of the world's largest car-free medina. A hammam and scrub takes roughly 45 minutes to an hour; a full ritual with massage runs around 90 minutes to two hours. Prices range from very roughly 20–40 MAD at a public bath to from around €80 at luxury riad spas. Confirm current rates when you book.

Fes is Morocco's spiritual and intellectual capital, home to the world's largest car-free medina — a labyrinth of nine thousand or so lanes where you walk all day on your feet over uneven ground. The hammam is the traditional answer to exactly that kind of day. People often arrive nervous and leave converted: the combination of heat, scrub and oil does something a normal shower cannot, and the result is skin that feels genuinely renewed and a body that feels reset.
The ritual is the same one Moroccans have used for centuries, and Fes — with its deep traditions and its neighbourhood hammams woven into the fabric of the old city — is one of the most authentic places to experience it. You warm in a steam room, are washed with savon beldi (a soft black olive-oil soap), then scrubbed all over with a kessa glove that lifts away dead skin in a startling way. A rhassoul clay from the Atlas is applied to draw out impurities, and finally pure argan oil is massaged into warm, freshly cleansed skin. A hammam and scrub takes roughly 45 minutes to an hour; with a massage and clay treatment added, a full ritual often runs around 90 minutes to two hours.
Prices range enormously with the setting, so use these as orientation and confirm current rates when you book: a neighbourhood public hammam is very roughly 20 to 40 MAD for entry, with a small extra fee for an attendant scrub; tourist and riad hammams run roughly from 150 MAD for a hammam and scrub, rising to roughly 500 to 700 MAD for a hammam plus a massage; and luxury riad and dedicated spa rituals commonly run from around €80 up to €150 or more per person. Private couples hammams are widely available, from around €50 to €60. These are indicative figures, not quotes.
