What Ouarzazate is like in July

July is the hot heart of summer at the desert gateway, with daytime highs around 38°C and the sun relentless from morning to dusk. Sightseeing is only comfortable at the very edges of the day: explore the Atlas Film Studios, the Taourirt Kasbah and the great ksar of Ait Benhaddou at dawn and after the late-afternoon heat eases, and spend the long midday in shade with plenty of water. Nights stay warm, offering some relief but little real cool.

Good to know

Ouarzazate in July: your questions

Is July a good time to visit Ouarzazate?+
July is a mixed, demanding choice. It is peak heat, around 38°C, so sightseeing is only comfortable at dawn and dusk, with the midday spent in shade. The onward Sahara is off the table. It suits only heat-hardy, careful travellers; spring and autumn offer the same scenery far more comfortably.
How hot is Ouarzazate in July?+
Ouarzazate in July has daytime highs of around 38°C, with the sun relentless all day, and night-time lows near 22°C. It is intensely hot. Plan all activity for early morning and the late, cooler afternoon, and use shade, rest and serious hydration through the blazing midday.
Is it rainy in Ouarzazate in July?+
No — July is peak heat and very dry, with essentially no rain and cloudless skies. Rain plays no part in planning. The sole focus is heat management: timing, sun protection, hydration and avoiding exertion during the midday sun.
What should I pack for Ouarzazate in July?+

  • The ochre kasbahs and ksour are still dramatic under July's blazing, cloudless skies, but the heat dictates a strict, conservative rhythm — early starts, long midday breaks and unhurried evenings. The onward Sahara is dangerously hot now and firmly off the table, so July here is about the film-and-kasbah sights, handled carefully around the sun. With near-zero rain, the skies are reliable; it is purely the temperature that defines the month.

July is a mixed month best reserved for heat-hardy travellers who plan meticulously around the midday sun and carry serious hydration. As high summer settles in, the gateway is quiet and crowds are thin. For those determined to come, the brilliant light and cinematic scenery remain, but for the vast majority the cooler spring and autumn months offer the same landscape in far more comfortable conditions.
