What Ouarzazate is like in March

March opens Ouarzazate's prime season. Daytime highs reach a comfortable 23°C under dry, brilliant skies, the nights have softened to a manageable cool, and the high-desert light is at its clearest and most generous. It is excellent timing for the full film-and-kasbah trail — the Atlas Film Studios, the Taourirt Kasbah, and the great ksar of Ait Benhaddou a short drive away — and for using the town as a comfortable base for the Dades and Draa valleys.

Good to know

Ouarzazate in March: your questions

Is March a good time to visit Ouarzazate?+
Yes — March is one of the best months. Warm, dry days around 23°C, clear skies and cooler-but-manageable nights make it excellent for the film studios, kasbahs and Ait Benhaddou, and for valley day trips. Crowds stay modest before the spring peak, so it is a near-ideal time to visit.
How hot is Ouarzazate in March?+
Ouarzazate in March has daytime highs of around 23°C and night-time lows near 7°C. Days are warm and comfortable for full sightseeing under clear skies, while evenings are cool rather than cold. The high-desert swing has eased considerably from midwinter.
Is it rainy in Ouarzazate in March?+
No — March stays very dry, with only around 1–2 rainy days and warm, clear skies. Rain is rarely a concern in this arid town. You can plan kasbah visits and valley day trips with very high confidence in settled, sunny weather.
What should I pack for Ouarzazate in March?+
Pack layers for warm days and cool evenings, a light jacket for after dark, comfortable walking shoes, a sun hat, sunscreen and sunglasses for the bright high-desert light. Days are pleasant; only the evenings need a warmer layer.

  • This is one of the best months to photograph the earthen architecture for which the region is famous. The mud-brick towers of Ait Benhaddou glow in the warm spring sun, and the valleys to the south and east — green after the cooler months — make for striking day trips. The dryness means near-guaranteed clear skies, so sightseeing days are reliable, while the moderating temperatures make walking the kasbahs and ksour a pleasure from morning to evening.

March is ideal for the high-desert leg of a southern itinerary, linking Marrakech over the Tizi n'Tichka with the gorges, valleys and the Sahara beyond. The days are warm and comfortable, the nights cool rather than cold, and the crowds remain modest before the spring peak. For travellers chasing dramatic light and dry, reliable weather at the door of the desert, March is hard to beat.
