What Meknes is like in March

March brings spring to the imperial city. Daytime highs climb to around 20°C, the rain begins to ease, and the surrounding Saiss plain and vineyards turn green. The light improves, the medina hums back to life, and the monumental Bab Mansour gate, the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum and the Heri es-Souani granaries are pleasant to explore for full days. Evenings are still cool, so a jacket is handy, but the city feels brighter and more alive after the long, wet winter.

Good to know

Meknes in March: your questions

Is March a good time to visit Meknes?+
Yes — March is a comfortable, value-led month. Spring brings highs around 20°C, easing rain and a greening countryside, while the city stays ahead of the main crowds. The drier weather is ideal for the exposed Volubilis ruins. It is a relaxed time to explore the imperial monuments and pair with Fes.
How hot is Meknes in March?+
Meknes in March has daytime highs of around 20°C and night-time lows near 8°C. Days are mild and pleasant for full-day sightseeing in a light layer, while evenings stay cool and need a jacket. The continental spring is gentle but not yet warm after dark.
Is it rainy in Meknes in March?+
March is drier than midwinter, with around 6–7 rainy days as spring sets in. Showers are usually briefer and bright spells longer, making it a good time for the exposed Volubilis ruins on a clear day. Keep a light rain layer for the occasional passing front.
What should I pack for Meknes in March?+
Pack layers for mild days and cool evenings, a light jacket for after dark, a light rain layer for spring showers, comfortable walking shoes and sunglasses. The continental spring is changeable but rarely cold by day, so heavy winter gear is unnecessary.

  • It is an excellent month to pair the imperial monuments with the countryside. With drier, warmer weather, the exposed Roman ruins of Volubilis — Morocco's best-preserved Roman site, with its mosaics, Capitol and Triumphal Arch — are at their best, green grass between the stones and storks on the columns. The nearby holy hill town of Moulay Idriss completes a rewarding day trip in the mild spring conditions, just a short drive from the city.

As the season opens, Meknes still sits ahead of the main crowds, so its imperial monuments stay calm and prices remain reasonable — a quiet advantage over busier Fes next door. March pairs the two cities neatly into an imperial circuit, with Volubilis and Moulay Idriss as a green, photogenic excursion. For mild weather, greener landscapes and lighter crowds, March is a comfortable, value-led time to visit.
