What Fes is like in March

March is when spring reaches Fes and the city shakes off winter. Daytime highs climb to a comfortable 21°C, the surrounding plains and the gardens of Fes Jdid turn green, and the medina hums back to life. Evenings are cool rather than cold, so an after-dark layer still earns its place, but full days exploring Talaa Kebira, the tanneries and the madrasas become a pleasure rather than an endurance test. The light is clean and the air carries orange blossom.

Good to know

Fes in March: your questions

Is March a good time to visit Fes?+
Yes — March is a strong, comfortable month. Spring brings highs around 21°C, green plains and a medina coming back to life, ideal for both city sightseeing and day trips to Meknes, Volubilis and the Middle Atlas. Evenings are cool and showers still occur, but the days are fresh, bright and increasingly warm.
How warm is Fes in March?+
Fes in March has daytime highs of around 21°C and night-time lows near 8°C. Days are pleasantly mild for full-day medina walking, and evenings are cool rather than cold. It is a balanced spring month — warm enough to enjoy, with a jacket still useful once the sun sets.
Does it rain in Fes in March?+
March sees around 6 rainy days, with spring showers scattered between warm, bright spells. Rain is rarely all-day and the wet lanes dry quickly. You can plan medina sightseeing and trips to Volubilis or the cedar forests with reasonable confidence, keeping a light rain layer for passing showers.

  • This is an excellent month to pair Fes with everything around it. The road to Meknes and Volubilis is at its loveliest, Roman ruins set against green, wildflower-streaked plains, and the day-trip routes toward the Middle Atlas cedar forests and Ifrane open comfortably. In the city, the slow craft circuit — the Nejjarine museum, the brass and weaving souks, a pottery cooperative on the outskirts — rewards an unhurried half-day before a long lunch on a sunlit terrace.

Crowds and prices begin to lift from the winter low as the season opens, so March rewards a little forward planning, but it is still gentler than the late-spring peak. Showers remain part of the picture — keep a light rain layer — yet they sit between increasingly warm, bright spells. For a first Fes visit that wants the medina and its day trips at their freshest and greenest, March is a strong, comfortable choice.
