What Fes is like in June

June marks the start of Fes's real summer heat. Daytime highs push toward 33°C and the valley medina, hemmed in by its hills, traps the warmth long after dark. Sightseeing works best bent around the sun: tackle Talaa Kebira, the tanneries and the madrasas in the cool early morning and again in the golden evening, and treat the midday hours for a shaded courtyard, mint tea and a riad with a cool patio. Skies are bright and the light is intense — striking, but a reason to pace the day.

Good to know

Fes in June: your questions

Is June a good time to visit Fes?+
June suits heat-tolerant travellers. Highs around 33°C mean medina sightseeing is best in the early morning and evening, with the Middle Atlas as a cool escape. The upside is thinner crowds than spring and easing prices. Pace your days around midday and June can be a rewarding, quieter month.
How warm is Fes in June?+
Fes in June has daytime highs of around 33°C and night-time lows near 17°C, with the valley medina holding heat after dark. Days are hot. Plan sightseeing for the cooler morning and evening hours, and use shade, water, mint tea and a cool riad through the midday peak.
Does it rain in Fes in June?+
June is essentially dry, with around 1–2 rainy days at most and bright skies the norm. Rain is not a planning concern. The challenge is heat rather than weather disruption, so focus on sun protection, hydration and timing rather than rain gear.
What should I pack for Fes in June?+
Pack lightweight, light-coloured clothing, a sun hat, high-SPF sunscreen and sunglasses, and a refillable water bottle. A light layer is useful only for cooler Middle Atlas day trips; in the city, evenings stay warm, so heavy layers are unnecessary.

  • This is the month to lean on altitude for relief. The Middle Atlas cedar forests around Azrou and the hill town of Ifrane sit markedly cooler than the city and make an easy day's escape into green, pine-scented air. In the city itself, a dawn start through the souks followed by an indoor or shaded afternoon — the Nejjarine museum, a hammam, a long lunch — keeps the heat manageable while still covering the medina's essentials at a comfortable rhythm.

The upside of June's heat is value and space: the spring crowds thin, prices ease, and the headline sights feel less pressed even as the summer season begins. In some years the Fes Festival of World Sacred Music runs into early June, filling the city with concerts — dates vary, so confirm. For heat-tolerant travellers happy to start early, escape to the Middle Atlas, and slow the midday hours, June can be a rewarding, quieter month.
