| Good for | Low prices, peaceful streets · Imperial monuments & souks · Bright days for Volubilis · A calm Fes-and-Meknes circuit |
February is January with a little more brightness in the imperial city. Daytime highs nudge toward 18°C, the showers ease slightly, and the bright spells between fronts lengthen. Meknes stays calm and good value, with the Bab Mansour gate, the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum and the medina all enjoyable without crowds. Evenings remain cold, so keep a warm layer, but the deepest chill of midwinter has begun to soften on the inland plain.

It is a fine month for the slow, cultural side of Meknes — the grandest imperial monuments in Morocco, taken in at an unhurried pace. The vast Heri es-Souani granaries, the mausoleum and the covered souks reward a leisurely visit, and the lighter rain makes it easier to plan a bright day for the exposed Roman ruins of Volubilis and the holy hill town of Moulay Idriss nearby. The surrounding Saiss farmland begins to green as spring approaches.
February rewards travellers who want an authentic, peaceful imperial city before the spring season arrives. Pair Meknes with Fes for a two-city imperial circuit, and with Volubilis and Moulay Idriss for a rewarding day in the countryside. The weather is changeable rather than reliable, but the continental late winter keeps sightseeing comfortable on the many bright days, at prices still close to the year's lowest.
