On top of pre-paid hotels and tours, plan roughly $30–60 per day per person for meals, taxis, tips, entry fees and small purchases — more if you shop in the souks or dine in upmarket restaurants. Keep most of it as dirhams in cash, topped up from ATMs as you go.

The amount of spending money you need depends on what is already paid for. If your accommodation, private transport and tours are pre-booked, your day-to-day spend mainly covers meals not included, taxis, tips, monument and museum entry fees, mint teas and the inevitable souvenirs. For that, a realistic budget is around $30–60 per person per day, leaning lower if you eat local and higher if you enjoy nicer restaurants.

Shopping is the wildcard that blows budgets in either direction. The souks are full of rugs, leather, lanterns, ceramics, spices and argan oil, and prices are negotiable — bargaining is expected and part of the fun. If you plan to buy a carpet or larger pieces, set aside a separate, deliberate budget for it rather than letting it eat your daily cash, and remember bigger purchases can often go on a card at the more established shops.

Entry fees and small experiences add up gently rather than dramatically: major sites typically charge a modest amount, a guided medina half-day is inexpensive, and a traditional hammam is very affordable. Tips across the day — for waiters, porters, guides and drivers — are individually small but worth keeping a dedicated pocket of coins and small notes for, since you cannot card them.

Practically, do not carry your whole trip's cash at once. Withdraw a few days' worth of dirhams from an ATM, keep most of it secure at the riad and carry what you need for the day. Top up from ATMs as you move between cities, keep a little foreign cash as backup, and you will rarely find yourself short. If you tell us your itinerary, we can give a tighter per-day figure.
