Day 1
The Cedre Gouraud Forest & Barbary Apes
Azrou
Azrou - "the rock" in Berber, named for the volcanic outcrop above the town - is the green capital of the Middle Atlas plateau. Your first day climbs into the Cedre Gouraud forest just outside town, a magnificent stand of ancient Atlas cedars that shelters Morocco's most accessible troops of wild Barbary apes. With a local guide you walk shaded trails, watch the macaques in the clearings, then drop back into Azrou to browse its cedar-wood carvers and Berber souk before a cosy mountain evening.
Morning
