Suitability

Is this 2-day Morocco itinerary right for you?

This route is designed around an unhurried, relaxed rhythm — long mornings, time to linger over mint tea and few box-ticking days. Days are gentle with little strenuous walking, so it suits most travellers, including families and first-time visitors to Morocco. It works best for groups of 1–12 (we find 2 is the sweet spot), and because every departure is private we can stretch or compress it to fit your dates.

  • You have 2 days and want to see Casablanca, Ain Diab
  • You want a route shaped by people who run it on the ground, not a generic template
  • You prefer comfort over roughing it — riads, hotels and a private vehicle throughout

01

Day 1: Hassan II Mosque & Downtown Casablanca

Casablanca

Begin with Morocco's grandest monument, the Hassan II Mosque, then dive into the heart of the country's economic capital. Completed in 1993, the mosque is one of the few in Morocco open to non-Muslims on guided tours, and its 210m minaret is the tallest in the world. The rest of the day pairs the walled Old Medina near the port with the palm-filled Mohammed V Square and the city's celebrated art deco and Mauresque architecture, an easy day mostly on foot and by tram.

Morning

2 hours

Hassan II Mosque Guided Tour

Take a guided tour of the Hassan II Mosque, designed by Michel Pinseau and built partly over the Atlantic. Old Medina & Mohammed V Square

Walk from the mosque into the walled Old Medina, then on to Mohammed V Square (Place Mohammed V), framed by grand colonial-era administrative buildings and a central fountain. Detour to the art deco Cathédrale du Sacré-Cœur, a striking deconsecrated landmark.

2-3 hours

Dinner at Rick's Café

End the day at Rick's Café, a lovingly recreated version of the bar from the 1942 film Casablanca, opened in 2004 inside a restored riad. Enjoy piano music and Moroccan-international cuisine, or choose a rooftop restaurant in the Gauthier district.

02

Day 2: Habous Quarter, the Corniche & Ain Diab

Ain Diab · 45 km · Short city hops by taxi or tram drive

Day two balances heritage and seafront leisure. Start in the Quartier Habous, the "New Medina" built by the French in the 1930s in a polished Hispano-Moorish style, full of spice shops, bookstalls and craftsmen, beside the Mahkama du Pacha courthouse. Then head west to the Atlantic, where the Ain Diab Corniche strings together beaches, pools and seafood terraces, ending at the vast Morocco Mall. It is a relaxed mix of shopping, sea air and a final ocean sunset.

Morning

2-3 hours

Quartier Habous & Mahkama du Pacha

Wander the arcaded lanes of the 1930s Habous quarter, browsing olives, spices, babouche slippers and traditional bookshops. Admire the ornate Mahkama du Pacha, a former courthouse and reception hall with carved cedar ceilings and zellij (exterior or by arrangement).

Afternoon

3 hours

Ain Diab Corniche & Beaches

Drive or taxi to the Ain Diab Corniche, Casablanca's seafront promenade lined with beach clubs, pools and cafés. Walk the oceanfront, past the El Hank lighthouse, and feel the Atlantic spray before a late lunch with a sea view.

Evening

2-day Morocco itinerary FAQs

How many days do you need in Casablanca?

One to two days is enough to see Casablanca's main sights. A single day covers the Hassan II Mosque and the downtown art deco core, while a second day adds the Habous quarter and the Ain Diab Corniche. Many travellers use Casablanca as an arrival or departure city paired with Rabat or Marrakech.

Can non-Muslims enter the Hassan II Mosque?

Yes. The Hassan II Mosque is one of the very few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslims, who can visit on scheduled guided tours (typically several times a day, outside prayer times). Visitors should dress modestly with shoulders and knees covered.

How tall is the Hassan II Mosque minaret?

The minaret of the Hassan II Mosque rises 210m, making it the tallest minaret in the world. A laser at its summit points toward Mecca. The mosque was completed in 1993, sits partly over the Atlantic, and can hold 25,000 worshippers inside plus 80,000 on the esplanade.

Is Casablanca worth visiting?

Yes, for a day or two. Casablanca is a modern, cosmopolitan city rather than a classic medina destination, but the Hassan II Mosque is world-class, the art deco and Mauresque architecture is unique in Morocco, and the seafront Corniche offers a relaxed Atlantic break. It is also a major transport hub.

Is Rick's Café from the movie real?

The film Casablanca (1942) was shot entirely in Hollywood, so the original Rick's Café never existed. The current Rick's Café is a faithful recreation opened in 2004 inside a restored riad by former US diplomat Kathy Kriger, complete with a piano, arches and period styling.

What is the Quartier Habous?

The Quartier Habous, or "New Medina," is a neighbourhood built by the French in the 1930s in a refined Hispano-Moorish style. Its arcaded streets are full of spice merchants, traditional bookshops, slipper makers and pastry stalls, and it sits beside the ornate Mahkama du Pacha courthouse.

How do you get from Casablanca airport to the city centre?

Mohammed V International Airport is about 30km southeast of central Casablanca. The easiest options are the direct train to Casa-Voyageurs and Casa-Port stations (roughly 40 minutes), a metered or app-based taxi, or a pre-booked private transfer.

What is there to do on the Ain Diab Corniche?

The Ain Diab Corniche is Casablanca's seafront promenade, lined with beaches, swimming pools, beach clubs, cafés and seafood restaurants. At its western end sits Morocco Mall, one of Africa's largest shopping centres, with a giant aquarium and a musical fountain - a relaxed spot for a sunset over the Atlantic.

Is Casablanca safe for tourists?

Casablanca is generally safe for visitors who take normal big-city precautions. Keep valuables discreet in crowded areas such as the Old Medina and Habous, use official or app-based taxis, and be aware of occasional pickpockets. Violent crime against tourists is rare.

When is the best time to visit Casablanca?

Spring (March to June) and autumn (September to November) offer the most comfortable weather, with mild temperatures and sea breezes off the Atlantic. Summers are warm but rarely extreme thanks to the coast, while winters are cool and can be wet.
