What changes
What Ramadan 2027 means for a traveller

Hundreds of brass lanterns lit in a Marrakech souk The days are calmer
Most Moroccans fast from dawn to sunset. In the medinas many cafés and small restaurants close by day, shops open later and working hours are shorter. Monuments, museums, gardens, hotels and riads keep their usual opening.
Cacti and the cobalt-blue villa of the Jardin Majorelle The evenings come alive
At sunset the call to prayer breaks the fast and the streets go quiet for iftar, usually harira soup, dates, eggs and honeyed sweets such as chebakia. An hour later the squares, bakeries and souks fill again and stay busy late into the night.

Ramadan falls in the cool season in 2027. Desert days are mild and clear with cold nights in camp, the almond trees usually blossom around Tafraout, and the Atlas peaks still carry snow. It is a good month for the Sahara and the south, with fewer visitors.

A panorama of Tinghir and its palm oasis Alcohol is more limited
Many shops stop selling alcohol for the month and some bars close. Some hotels still serve guests, more discreetly. If it matters to you, tell us and we will choose hotels where you can have a glass of wine with dinner.

Eid al-Fitr, about 9 March, is a family holiday: shops and workshops close for a day or two and roads are busy as people travel home. We keep those days for landscapes or a quiet riad, not a souk visit.

Every trip is private, with your own driver and a local guide where you want one. During Ramadan we start early, rest at midday and keep the evenings free for iftar and the night streets.

Dates to know in 2027
The 2027 dates that shape this trip
“About” means the date depends on the moon; “usually” means the 2027 dates are not announced yet. We confirm both in your proposal.
Good to know
Travelling respectfully during Ramadan
Eat and drink discreetly
Visitors are not expected to fast. Eat and drink in your riad, hotel or a restaurant that is open rather than on the street, and avoid smoking in public by day.
Dress a little more modestly
Covered shoulders and knees are appreciated all year in the medinas and more so during Ramadan, especially near mosques.
Expect shorter opening hours
Banks, offices and many shops keep shorter Ramadan hours. Morocco has in recent years moved its clocks back an hour for the month; we confirm timings in your plan.
Accept an iftar invitation
If a riad host or guide invites you to break the fast, it is a warm gesture. Wait for the call to prayer, start with a date and soup, and say thank you, shukran.

The hour before sunset is the quietest and most tired of the day; traffic rushes home. We avoid long drives and arrivals at that time.

Is it a good idea to visit Morocco during Ramadan 2027?
Yes, if you enjoy a slower pace. Days are calm, monuments and hotels are open, and the evenings after iftar are lively. In 2027 Ramadan falls in the cool season, which suits the Sahara and the south.
Are restaurants open during Ramadan in Morocco?
Hotel and riad restaurants serve meals all day. Many small cafés in the medinas close until sunset, while tourist restaurants in Marrakech and the new towns often stay open. Everything reopens after iftar.
Can tourists eat in public during Ramadan?
Visitors are not expected to fast, but it is respectful to eat, drink and smoke discreetly, indoors or in an open restaurant rather than on the street.
Is alcohol available during Ramadan 2027?
It is more limited. Many shops stop selling alcohol for the month and some bars close; some hotels still serve guests. Tell us if it matters and we will plan around it.

Eid al-Fitr, about 9 March 2027, ends Ramadan with morning prayers and family visits. Many shops and workshops close for a day or two and roads are busy, so we plan a quiet day.
